Club Team

Our Club Team is designed for athletes who aspire to race in PNSA divisional series' (Evergreen Cup, Northwest Cup). The program is a stepping stone to our Academy Team.  When logical, from an athletic development standpoint, the Club Team training progression will merge with Academy Team athletes allowing Club Team athletes the chance to share pace with Academy Team athletes.

The Club Team has a 3-day per week commitment level to best prepare athletes for above mentioned race series. The 3-day commitment includes Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with training offered on Friday days and Friday nights. This program has a minimal impact on missed school days while achieving appropriate volume of on snow training before racing.

To keep our Club Team program of the highest quality and bring value to each individual athlete we limit the size of the team to maintain a low athlete to coach ratio (6:1 on average).

Additional Club Team Requirements:
In creating a team of committed Club Team athletes, in 2024-25 we highly recommend that all Club Team athletes attend a minimum of ONE
Summer Camp AND our Pre-Season Camp in November. Registration will be accepted online and selections will be made with priority given to current and former MHRTA members.

Program Cost: U18/U16 - $4500, U14 - $4200

A-B-C Teams

Our Youth Development System is designed for U08, U10, U12 & U14 athletes with the option to commit to ONE, TWO or THREE days a week.

A-Team - THREE DAYS (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) - U10/U12/U14
B-Team - TWO DAYS (Saturday/Sunday) - U10/U12/U14
C-Team - ONE Day (Saturday) - U08/U10

We believe that as kids are more interested in ski racing and as they get older they need and can handle more time on snow. You will notice that U14's have a 2 or 3-Day option (with the 3-day option being recommended), while U08's have only the 1-day option. There may be some exceptions to this recommendation, however, this program structure follows the youth guidelines created by US Ski and Snowboard.

Within the Youth Program, ability and age-based groups will be utilized to teach on-snow skiing and racing skills.  The time on snow emphasizes FUNdamental skiing skills with plenty of all-mountain skiing and gate training.

A healthy competitive spirit is an asset to an athlete considering this program. It is expected that athletes in this program attend all Mt. Hood Youth Ski League races. The A-Team is a great starting point for U14 athletes to join US Ski and Snowboard and begin traveling to U14 series races outside of the Mt. Hood area.  U12's are also encouraged to join US Ski and Snowboard and race in the Buddy Werner Championships, a US Ski & Snowboard U12 event held at a different Pacific Northwest (PNW) ski area each year.

The A-Team includes Friday training which can include a 12-3p day session and/or a 5-8pm Friday night session. Saturday and Sunday training for all teams is from 9-3pm at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl.

Learn to Race (LTR)

Our Learn to Race Program

  • Learn To Race (LTR) is the first level of Mt. Hood Race Team & Academy program offerings under our Youth Development Team.
  • Prior racing experience is not required, however, skiers MUST be able to ride the lifts, negotiate advanced to intermediate terrain, ski parallel most of the time and put on their own equipment.
  • Learn to Race is open to youth ages 6 to 11.
  • A parent is asked to ski with their child until determined, by the coach, that the child is ready to ride the chair safely and is mature enough to function without their parents present.
  • Athletes can purchase daily tickets or a resort pass. A Fusion Pass which provides access to Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline is recommended but not required.
  • Athletes have the option and are encouraged to participate in the Mt. Hood Youth Ski League races at our local ski areas. These races are coach supported.
  • Learn to Race is a gateway to our Youth A, B and C Teams. As  new racers are ready, with coach approval, athletes will be invited to join the Youth C Team and can transfer mid-season.
